Holiday season

I've been trying to think of something to write concerning the upcoming holiday season. There was, of course, the terrible Thanksgiving-related sexual jokes that immediately popped into my head ("Can I stuff your turkey" "What's this white, sticky stuff on my sweet potatoes" etc.) but I thought that I would steer clear of all that. Instead, partially inspired by Shirtless and his blog entry, I've decided to make a short list of things that I am thankful for. The list is not too long, and certainly not complete, but it is what I am thinking about right now.

*I am thankful for my friends and family, who always seem to be there even when I'm not
*I am thankful for my wonderful wife-to-be who has every right and reason to leave me but doesn't
*I am thankful for my cat who, hopefully, will be the only living creature I am responsible for
*I am thankful for sugar and saturated fats for making me happy when I'm sad
*I am thankful for the ability to pick up my life in Ohio and move to NYC without any real difficulty
*I am thankful that I can watch every Giants game without having to pay for cable
*I am thankful for the internet, without which I would most definitely lose touch with half the people in my life and I wouldn't be able to vent publicly
*On a related note, I am thankful to Burb for getting me started on this whole blogging thing to begin with
*I am thankful for all of the musical artists and Apple for helping me make it through my workday when I need a boost
*I am thankful for President Bush, who is teaching America to think more clearly before you pull that lever in the voting booth
*I am thankful for the chance to write something that someone might actually want to read
*And I am thankful to you, dear reader, who check my blog with any regularity and have some interest in what I have to say

*Right now I really have to pee, so I am also thankful that we live in a country with running water and flushing toilets instead of dark holes in the ground with roaches crawling in and out of them.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Wonderful!

We don't use the rebus form nearly enough in the world today.

Have a great holiday!

And I am thankful for my "in" residing in NYC. Hopefully next year, I will make my first journey there.

I too, must now pee.

God Bless America.

Drinking + GarageBand = This

Another foray into multimedia and rum. Enjoy!

Warning: this may cause ears to bleed and babies to weep.

Catfood yes, Beatles maybe, with a hefty dash of Zappa's "America Drinks and Goes Home" from whatever that album was (Lulu or Kelu can tell you). Rating: BEST

Drinking + Playdoh = This

So Burb kinda stole my thunder by being the first person to post a video on Putfile, but I hope to top him with this gem. I created it a few months back on a fun trip with Fuzzyblu to visit our college friend. We bought some wine and I supplied everyone with the Playdoh and the result was wonderful. Click here to watch it.

Look man. I am sorry about posting video before you! I can continue to apologize for a long time, but it'll probably NEVER be enough!

Can't you just take solace in the fact that you live in NYC?

Anyway . . . next time you have something in mind, but don't want others to know, just secretly email me and I'll totally put it in the Kate-safety-deposit box alongside the plane and lock it away in My Vault and no one will ever know until you tell me to divulge it.

I've kept Shirtless's secret love child a secret until n-- . . . well, anyway, you get the idea.

And thanks for the weird video! I feel sad for Creepy Thing that resembled a dinosaur.

You do have to feel sorry for the creepy thing. So sad...

And I'd like to see John Williams come up with a more moving score than that.

Dear Spec,

I perused your post (Drinking + Playdoh = This) with much interest as I was looking for ways to buy and sell instant road repair. Unfortunately your article was not exactly what I was looking for
instant road repair. But luckily there is a site I have found that allows you to buy and sell anything like instant road repair on interest free credit and you can pay for your instant road repair whenever you want. Here's the link one more time: instant road repair.

Books and Done

It is very hard to concentrate on working right now. The reason for that is a very loud concert that is taking place outside of my building right now. Standing up on the roof of the 7th Ave. entrance to Penn Station/Madison Square Garden is the band Brooks & Dunn. They've been rockin' and rollin' for about 15 minutes now and it is starting to become annoying. I am currently listening to music on my computer. The volume is all the way up. And I can still hear them.
Oh, did I mention that I'm up on the 21st floor?
Those are some strong speakers.

Throw something out the window at them.

NO, Brian! DON'T! Do you know that a PENNY thrown from the top of the Empire State can RAM A HOLE THROUGH THE TOP OF SOMEONE'S HEAD?!?!?!

Oh--it's Brooks and Dunn? Go ahead!

(Though they DID play Farm Aid, your know, and that's a pretty liberal gig. And it's for family farmers. And that's cool.)

On this day...

Today, Thursday November 10th is the 30th Anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. To honor those lost to the dark waters of Lake Superior, here is some Gordon Lightfoot.

Thanks, Spec. I love that song despite its shortcomings and Gordon's lost voice. I was living in the U.P. 1974-1976, and that song was on the radio A LOT. I never heard anybody say they got tired of it. Needless to say, Uppanites respect the Lake.

Hey Spec, I've got nothing valuable to say about Gordon Lightfoot or the Ed Fitz.

However, you have blessed me with one of the last pieces in my blogging puzzle--a place to put videos.

Thanks!

I believe it's the "gales" of November, Raisinette. A startling slip from a Michigan apologist!

Does anyone else think that Gordon's "Sundown" song is menacingly creepy? "Sundown, you better take care, if I find you've been creepin' down my back stair . . . " He comes across as this sunshiny singer-songwriter but his really popular songs? Moody as all hell! That's all I have to say about Gordon.

Lake Superior is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, and I've seen some good ones. It truly is a magical place.

Since you force my hand, let me say this about that. The tragic irony of Gordie Lightfoot is that his career (read money-making) took off when one of his worst songs, "Sundown", got a lot of airplay, thus planting this lame song in millions of minds as his work. I read somewhere that he also got fat when he started making the big bucks, so double karmic whammy. For my money, his best work is bluish even though a bit lightweight, just like the man in his prime.

Move it on down

Well, that porn-related post has been up for far too long, as I am sure anyone who checks this blog can attest. So I will try to write a post that is long enough to push it entirely off the page. So here it goes:

I had my first celebrity sighting recently. On my way to see Rufus Wainwright in concert on Tuesday night (he's not the celebrity in question, sadly) LG and I were walking up Broadway, between 72nd and 73rd, when I recognized the following person:

Richard Belzar (aka Munch on "Law & Order")
Quite a wonderful sight to see, huh? He was walking towards us with his dog, wearing a leather jacket (him, not the dog), and listening to an iPod. As we passed him I looked up (he is a pretty tall man) and recognized him immediately. I turned to LG and exclaimed:

"Hey, it's that guy!"

I'm such a tool.
